In short

This website is published by Design in Mental Health Network – North America. It exists to share information about the Network, its people, its events and its work on the design of mental health environments.

It is not a source of clinical advice, and it is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know needs urgent help, please see section 4.

1. Who we are, and what these terms cover

Design in Mental Health Network – North America (“DiMHN-NA”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a charitable corporation incorporated in the State of New York.

These terms apply to your use of this website and everything on it. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Separate terms will apply to membership when membership opens in 2027, and to Founding Sponsorship. Those are agreed separately and are not covered here.

How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, and the cookies we use are listed in our Cookie Policy.

2. What this website is for

The site provides general information about DiMHN-NA, its Board, its members, its partners, its events and its published material. It is intended for professionals, researchers, organizations, people with lived experience and anyone with an interest in how mental health environments are designed.

You may read, print and share pages from the site for your own non-commercial use, and quote from it with attribution. Everything else is covered in section 6.

3. What this website is not

The content on this site is general information, published for a broad audience. It is not:

4. If you need urgent help

This website is not monitored for emergencies and we cannot respond to anyone in crisis.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911.

If you need mental health or suicide crisis support:

5. Membership, sponsorship and governance

DiMHN-NA is a Board-governed not-for-profit organization.

Membership does not confer governance rights on our members, and does not require governance responsibilities from our members. It is a way to participate in, contribute to and support the work of the Network.

Sponsorship supports the Network. It does not purchase influence over DiMHN-NA policies, research, educational content or professional standards.

Registering your interest in membership or in Founding Sponsorship through this site is not an application, and does not create any agreement between us. It tells us you would like to hear more, and we will come back to you.

6. Content, images and intellectual property

Unless we say otherwise, the text, layout, graphics and design of this site belong to DiMHN-NA or are used by us with permission. All rights are reserved.

The photography on this site is credited work, used with the permission of the photographers and the practices that supplied it, and it is licensed to DiMHN-NA only. Each image carries its credit. You may not copy, download, reuse or republish any photograph from this site, in any medium, without the written permission of the credited rights holder. If you would like to use an image, contact us and we will point you to the right person.

Quoting our written material is fine, with attribution to DiMHN-NA and a link to the page. Reproducing whole articles, or using our name, logo or material in a way that suggests we endorse you, is not.

Material contributed by members, partners or authors remains theirs. We publish it with their permission.

7. Links to other websites

We link to other organizations because their work is relevant, not because we vouch for everything on their sites. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or how they handle your personal information. Their own terms and privacy notices apply from the moment you arrive.

8. Accuracy, availability and liability

We take care over what we publish, and we correct mistakes when we find them or when they are pointed out to us. Even so, the site is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or that the information on it is complete or current at any given moment.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DiMHN-NA is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site, from reliance on anything published on it, or from your inability to access it. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Accessibility

We want this site to be usable by everyone, and it has been built against the WCAG 2.1 level AA guidelines.

If you find something you cannot use, or that is difficult to use, please tell us at hello@dimhn-na.org and we will fix it. Given what this Network exists to do, we would rather hear about it than not.

10. Acceptable use

Please do not use this site to break the law, to harass anyone, to misrepresent yourself or your organization, to introduce malicious code, to attempt to gain unauthorized access, or to extract content in bulk by automated means.

We may restrict access to anyone who does.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version is always the one on this page, and the effective date at the top tells you when it last changed.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and the courts of the State of New York have exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any right you have to bring a claim in the courts of the place where you live.
